iOS 27 might add a lot more customization to the Camera app

Apple's next iOS update could include something phone photographers have been waiting for: a lot more control over the Camera app. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Camera app will be "fully customizable" in iOS 27 and users will be able to "pick their own set of controls - called widgets - that run along the top of the interface."

Gurman notes that the Camera app will keep the current set of default widgets, but starting with iOS 27, you will "be able to switch over to an 'advanced' array of options or choose their own items." Apple brings encrypted RCS chats to iPhone

Apple now lets you have encrypted RCS conversations with Android users through the Messages app on iOS. As part of iOS 26.5, which was released on Monday, Apple added support for end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging in beta, meaning that Apple and Google can't see your messages while they're sent.

With iOS 26.5, you'll see a lock icon and a small "Encrypted" message at the top of the chat to note when you're having an encrypted conversation with an Android user and are on a carrier that supports the feature. Apple says that encryption will be on by default and "will be automatically enabled over time for new and existing RCS conversations." …

Apple reportedly has a deal to use Intel-made chips again

Apple and Intel reached a "preliminary agreement" for Intel to make chips for Apple hardware, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Apple had famously moved on from Intel-powered computers with its highly successful transition to Apple Silicon, but now it appears the two companies will be working closely together again.

Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO in March 2025, and in August, the US government took a 10 percent stake in the company.

The WSJ says that it's "still unclear" what Apple products will get Intel chips. Intel spokesperson Kiana Ducey declined to comment. Apple didn't immediately reply to a request for comment.

The MacBook Neo might lose its most appealing trait thanks to the ongoing RAM shortage. According to analyst Tim Culpan, Apple could discontinue the budget-priced $599 base configuration of the Neo, leaving only the $699 model with 512GB of storage. Earlier this week, Apple similarly stopped selling the most affordable configuration of the Mac mini, effectively bumping its starting price up to $799. In March, Apple removed the option for 512GB of RAM in the Mac Studio, likely also as a result of RAM shortages.

II know I'm not the only person who wants a MacBook Pro for Windows: a sleek, ultra powerful, super portable machine with an excellent screen and high-quality build. Samsung's Galaxy Book6 Ultra certainly tries. It's got a beautiful screen and a nice design, and it's as solidly built as laptops come.

It also looks, well, almost exactly like a MacBook Pro, to the point where I occasionally use the wrong keyboard shortcuts out of habit. Other Windows laptops have at times incorporated some MacBook design influences, but the Galaxy houses so many of them that it's obvious what Samsung was going for.

It's not the Mini, it's me.

Nearly five years after it launched, the 13 Mini is still the best phone ever made. That hasn't changed; it's just that I changed. And as painful as it is to admit this, after using it again for a couple of weeks, I think it's time to put my iPhone 13 Mini to rest.

The Mini is an underdog. An outlier. It's a weird little phone that Apple tried to sell twice, couldn't, and promptly gave up on. If you pick it up after using any modern phone it's laughably small. A tiny baby phone in a world of Maxes and Ultras.

Apple agrees to pay iPhone owners $250 million for not delivering AI Siri

Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused it of misleading customers about the availability of its Apple Intelligence features. The proposed settlement would apply to people in the US who purchased all models of the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15 Pro between June 10th, 2024 and March 29th, 2025.
